Building Emerald High School: A Milestone for Dublin’s Future

Crusader Fence Enhances Security and Functionality for Alameda County’s First New High School in Over 50 Years

Oct 1, 2024

Emerald High School, located on the east side of Dublin, California, is a groundbreaking project set to accommodate 2,500 students by 2026. This multi-phase initiative addresses the urgent need for educational space as Dublin’s student population grew by a staggering 92% between 2010 and 2020. Funded by a combination of Measure H, Measure J, and Proposition 51 bond measures, the $374 million project promises to be a hub for academic, athletic, and community activities.

A Long-Awaited High School for a Growing Community

The need for a second high school in Dublin has been years in the making. Emerald High School broke ground in September 2020, following years of planning and approval by the Dublin Unified School District (DUSD).

Emerald High’s 23-acre campus represents the first comprehensive high school built in Alameda County in over half a century. Designed to meet the needs of the fastest growing city in California, the school’s planned amenities include cutting-edge science and technology labs, a 2,400-seat gymnasium, a spacious, modern student union, and a range of athletic facilities, including an 8-lane track, football, soccer, and lacrosse fields, and eight tennis courts.

The first phase, which opened in August 2024 to accommodate nearly 1,000 freshman and sophomore students, includes 42 classrooms, a gym, locker rooms, and key athletic facilities. The second phase—expected to be completed in 2025—will add additional academic towers, stadium bleachers, and a visual and performing arts center.

Our Role in Building Emerald High School

As construction progresses, Crusader Fence—Northern California’s largest commercial fence company—plays a crucial role in shaping security and functionality for the school as we design and install fencing and perimeter security structures throughout the campus. Our team is currently building ornamental iron fencing around the football stadium, offering both protection and a polished aesthetic. Additionally, chain link fencing will line the track, the tennis courts, and critical areas beneath the football bleachers, providing essential barriers that contribute to both safety and storage.

Crusader’s expertise also extends to the installation of two automated HySecurity gates at the school’s main entrance. These advanced gates will be programmed with a timer system, closing during class hours and reopening at the end of the school day. Equipped with emergency devices for fire department access, these gates will enhance security without compromising safety.

With Phase II already in progress and an expected completion date of April 2025, Crusader’s work on additional fencing and bleacher security will help set the safety and aesthetic standards for future students. For us, this project is not only about securing the campus but also contributing to a high-quality environment where students and staff can thrive. Our work on the fencing infrastructure will help ensure the school is fully equipped to serve the Dublin community for generations to come.
